Our Vision

Jenerous launched in September 2019 with the vision of “making a positive difference through ethical fashion, changing lives in India as a result of the production and sale of our clothing.”  We wanted to do this in two ways; by creating dignified, fair work and by giving back from sales.

Every purchase enables us to place more orders, creating life changing work and supporting Fair Trade producers. We also give back at least 10% of every sale to support our partners and communities in India and surrounding countries.

Our Social Impact

Jenerous is already fulling it’s purpose of changing lives. Here’s our social impact so far:

The Leprosy Mission

We’ve partnered with ‘The Leprosy Mission’ and are supporting their vocational training centres in India. Young people affected by leprosy are given the opportunity to learn a skill that is life changing. Your purchase will help to fund places on a 12 month tailoring course for women like Vinothini who now works at a garment factory in Chennai. Every £25 spent at Jenerous provides a week of training. To find out more about how the training is changing lives read our blog.

Vinothini who graduated from the Vocational Training Centre and now works at a garment factory

Vinothini, 20, is affected by leprosy and studied at one of TLM's Vocational Training Centres. She studied tailoring and graduated with among the highest marks in the country. The TLM placement program got her an interview with a prestigious garment company in Chennai, where she now works. Her supervisor is very impressed with her work. She is able to send money home to her mother and save most of her income. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer and creating her own brand and label. After a few more years experience, she plans to use some of her savings to take a further course in fashion design and plans to start her own boutique. She wants to support and champion other young people affected by leprosy too.

Watch the video below and discover more about how your purchase can make a difference through our partnership with The Leprosy Mission.

To date we have donated 700 weeks of tailoring training at a vocational training centre in West Bengal. This means that 13 young people have been fully trained in tailoring. Included in the training program are meals, accommodation, uniforms, exam fees and help finding work after the course is complete.

Stand By Me

We have given to the work of Stand By Me a charity that rescues children in need. Our donation went towards their Myanmar appeal to fund tablets that enabled the children to learn through online lessons. Due to the pandemic and the military coup children have been deprived of any form of education as schools were closed. Stand by Me care for around 2000 children in Myanmar, providing education, safe and loving homes, medical care and whatever else they need to grow and fulfil their dreams and wishes.

Jacobswell

We raised funds for Jacobswell, our partner factory in Bangalore, throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Our donations helped them to cover salary costs when there was little work and closures due to lockdowns. During the pandemic we donated 100% of profits from the sale of our scarves and face masks and donated 242 days worth of salary to the workers. This made a huge difference and provided financial support to the employees and their families.

Saris For Women

We have donated profits from our sales to provide saris for women suffering with leprosy and widows in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Empowering Work

We have provided fair and empowering work for our partner Fair Trade factories in India. Our WFTO partners train and employ people from low socio-economic backgrounds, offering sustainable, fair and safe work that helps the workers on their journey out of poverty.
