About Our Clothing

Where are Jenerous clothes made?

Jenerous clothes are made in small Fair Trade factories in India and Nepal. We partner with Jacobwell in Bangalore, Auromira Exports in Pondicherry, Mila Fair in Tirupur and Purnaa in Nepal. As a transparent brand we share with you the details of where our clothing is made.

How do I know that my Jenerous clothes are made ethically?

At Jenerous we are committed to fair and ethical production and are proud to be a member of BAFTS Fair Trade Network UK, which is a network of independent shops and suppliers dedicated to promoting Fair Trade retail in the UK. We are also a WFTO First Buyer and partner with Fair Trade enterprises and seek to adhere to the 10 principles of Fair Trade, that puts the planet and people first. You can read more about these principles here.

You’re a WFTO First Buyer, what does that mean?

The World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) is a global community of social enterprises that fully practice Fair Trade. Their Guarantee System verifies that members are truly Fair Trade Enterprises. This means they pioneer models of business that put people and planet first. We have partnered with Fair Trade Enterprises to guarantee that products are from a Fair Trade origin.

Why does Jenerous make Fair Trade clothing?

We believe in creating clothing in a way that is fair, providing fair pay and safe working conditions. The fast fashion industry supports a system where clothes are made in massive volumes and in poor conditions. The people making the clothing receive only a small percentage of the retail price. Fair Trade fashion, much like Fair Trade food ensures that workers are paid well. You can read more about the problems with fast fashion and why we need a fashion revolution here.

How are Jenerous’ prints made?

We partner with artisan block printers to create unique hand made prints. We love supporting small artisan communities and preserving this ancient craft. Each print is made using a different wooden carved block for each colour. These are skilfully placed to create beautiful intricate patterns.

What dyes are used for printing?

We’ve partnered with Artisan block printers that use eco-friendly and natural dyes.

What fabrics are Jenerous’ clothes made from?

We choose fabrics that are sustainable and natural as we take steps to care for the planet and it’s resources. The majority of our collection is made from organic cotton, with some Lenzing modal dresses. We also use deadstock and stock fabrics which avoids these fabrics going to landfill, using up fabrics that have already been produced. You can find out more about our fabrics here.

How do I know what size I am?

Jenerous clothing comes in a UK size 8 -16 and some pieces in a small, medium and large. Our girls dresses start at an age 2-3 years and go up to 10-11 years, with a few styles going up to 12-13 years. You can check all your measurements against our sizing chart here.

Why doesn’t Jenerous make their clothing size inclusive?

As Jenerous is still a small and relatively new brand we are only able to offer a limited size range. This is due to the costs associated with grading patterns and developing and fitting new products. We are aware that our sizing means that some customers are unable to purchase our clothing, and are planning to increase our size range as our business grows.

How should I wash and care for my Jenerous clothing?

We recommend that our clothing is washed in cold water, using eco-friendly washing products unless the material requires dry-cleaning. ( This applies to a few of our garments made from deadstock fabrics) Further details are on our wash care labels attached to each garment.

What happens if I need to return my purchase?

We currently offer returns within 14 days of receiving your purchase. You can find out how to do this by clicking here.

What should I do with my used Jenerous clothing?

Jenerous has signed the Circular Fashion Pledge which seeks to reduce landfill and increase the life of our clothing. We are offering to take back pre-loved items for reselling. We donate the sale proceeds to our charity projects and give you in exchange a 25% discount code for new items to purchase. You can read more about how this works here.

Where can I buy Jenerous clothing from?

Our products are available on our website; through our Facebook shop; on our Ebay Store and through various online market places. We are also stocked at some boutiques and sell at various pop-up events and markets during the year. You can see our stockists and up and coming events here.

About Jenerous

Jenerous is a CIC, what does that mean?

Jenerous is a Community Interest Company (CIC) and a social enterprise business. All profits from the sale of Jenerous products are re-invested into the business or given away.

Community Interest Companies are a form of Limited company often used by Social Enterprises that are in business to benefit their community, pursuing a social purpose, rather than trying to make a profit for shareholders. We are a registered Social Enterprise with Social Enterprise UK.

We set up Jenerous as a CIC to reflect our purpose and mission, to be a brand that changes lives through fashion.

How does Jenerous give back?

Jenerous gives at least 10% of all sales to support our producers and charity projects in India. During the Covid-19 Pandemic all profits of our scarves and facemasks have been donated to the workers at our factory. We have more recently partnered with The Leprosy Mission, supporting their vocational training program, giving opportunities to young people affected by leprosy. You can read more about our impact here.

Why do you plant trees?

We have historically partnered with a company called C Free, planting a tree for every order and new subscriber to our mailing list. We feel that tree planting is a valuable contribution for future generations and aligns with our aim to care for the planet.

We planted native tree species in Madagascar, Kenya, Nepal, and Indonesia. Many of the trees were mangroves as they help reinstate soil stabilisation, improve the quality of the water, and provide a natural habitat for fish and other rare sea creatures. Mangroves are also fantastic carbon sinks and (pound for pound) remove four times more carbon than rainforests! We also helped to ensure a decent income for the local villagers that planted the trees, and guaranteed income even on days where no trees could be planted due to extreme weather.

We are currently reviewing our tree planting, and researching other providers or ways to have a positive impact on the environment.
